Short bio
Juan Garbajosa is a Professor at the Informatics School of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM), Spain. He teaches courses in Software Engineering, and in Systems Integration and Validation. He is the leader of the Systems and software technology research group (SYST) at UPM. He joined full time UPM in 1997. Since then he has been project manager or UPM leader of several European projects (METSES, XNETMOD, ITEA2 FLEXI) or contracts from the European Space Agency (DOBERTSEE and DOBERTSEE CCN-1).
He is also active in standardization activities. He is the convenor of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC7 WG20 Software and Systems Bodies of Knowledge and Professionalization. He has been also co-editor of several standards related to software tools.
He has co-authored multiple articles in journals and conferences, and often serves as program committee member of different conferences, being also co-organizer of some events such as the System testing and Validation Workshop.
Before joining the University he spent more than sixteen years serving in industry, ten of which in aerospace industry, and the rest in national and local government, with different management and technical responsibilities.
His research interests include agile and rigorous processes for software intensive systems; tools for validation, monitoring and operation of complex systems; software product and process models; and quality, standards and innovation.
