Agile Learning
Educational Innovation Project for the evaluation of Transversal Competences through the implementation of agile methodologies.
The project aims to propose a learning methodology based on the values, principles and values of agile methodologies. The project adapts the concept, roles and artefacts of Scrum so that they can be used in the teaching of university studies. In support of the project, an evolution of the Moodle e-learning platform has been developed to support the iterative and incremental approach, as well as to incorporate the retrospective and iteration review ceremonies.
Description
The project objectives are the following:
1. Integrating the training and assessment of transversal competences with the preparation of specific competences. The implementation of the pedagogical innovation project from an agile perspective allows the transversal competences to be strengthened at the same time as the specific competences of the degree are developed in the student. We must not forget the group nature of many of the practices and the different subjects of the different fields of knowledge that are proposed to be carried out based on agile methodologies for teaching. Agile tools provide mechanisms and processes that allow the integration of these competences to be clearly carried out. In order to achieve this goal, the following specific objectives have been defined:
- To improve the process of adopting agile values, principles and practices in the learning process of the software engineering graduate.
- To improve the mechanisms for assessing transversal competences.
- Consolidation of the results, benchmarking and empirical analysis of the results of the adaptation year.
- Define an innovative and integrated continuous assessment process in the learning process, using the mechanisms developed in the first year to measure transversal competences.
- Define the concept of the digital portfolio in the context of the Software Engineering degree.
- Disseminate the results
- Improve the Agile Moodle learning platform (http://agilelearning.eui.upm.es/) to support the dissemination of results, the learning process, the digital portfolio and collaborative teamwork.
- Enrich the knowledge acquired by the students through seminars and lectures by professionals from the company and renowned lecturers from national and international universities.
- Implementation of a PIE involving different departments of the University School of Computer Science (interdepartmental).
2. Use of technologies that enrich the training process of the students. Specifically, the project involves teaching through Moodle, using the possibilities offered by the Internet. The student not only uses the tools, but at the same time improves his knowledge of them, which enhances the skills developed in his training. It is important to highlight the work that has been done and is being developed to adapt the available technologies to the teaching needs from an agile point of view. The methodology is supported by specific software, which is being improved and could, in the future, become a general method of evaluation and improvement for students, subjects and teachers at the Centre.
3. In order to increase the efficiency of students’ learning, analysis points on the results have been developed in order to detect failures and propose measures for improvement. Specifically, the assessment and grading systems are being considered from the perspective of agile methodology in order to implement them in other subjects and disciplines.
